I'D eaten my special pre-match Geordie black pudding, I had drunk the requisite amount of refreshments - and bought 54 beers for people in the pub - but I still had a bad feeling about this one.

I approach each match as I did as a player - with a certain amount of superstition and ritual. But I felt that an England win in Ireland was too much to hope for. And boy was I right. But whatever the disappointment over missing out on a Grand Slam, huge credit should be given to Ireland. People will come down on England like a ton of bricks, but they shouldn't.
